Purpose of the Cocurricular Record
The Cocurricular Record at Truman has multiple purposes.
These purposes include the following:
- To recognize the valuable learning experiences
students have outside the classroom in the liberal arts and science culture
of Truman.
- To recognize the students who make efforts to learn
and develop inside and outside of the classroom at Truman.
- To provide students with an opportunity to make
intentional decisions about the out-of-class experiences with specific
educational outcomes in mind.
- To provide faculty and staff with a tool for advising
students regarding their out-of-class involvements in light of their
student’s educational goals and career aspirations.
- To encourage students to reflect upon their out of
class experiences by developing the skills of critical thinking and
reflective judgment.
- To verify for external constituencies’ the
cocurricular activities a student has engaged in during their Truman
experience and the educational impact of those involvements.
- To provide data by which the University can evaluate
and improve the impact of out-of-class and other educational experiences.
- To provide information for student organizations
including current membership data and historical records.
