Criteria for Inclusion of an Employment Experience in the Cocurricular Record

In order to be eligible for inclusion on the Cocurricular Record, an employment experience must meet the following criteria:

  • The employment experience was not conducted as part of a course for academic credit, represents significant involvement beyond the requirements of the course, OR results in a special achievement, certification, or recognition that is not reflected by the academic transcript. (If the experience includes the awarding of academic credit, approval from the appropriate academic dean is required for the experience to be listed on the Cocurricular Record).
  • The employment experience is supervised by a qualified professional, preferably a member of the Truman faculty and/or staff.
  • The experience involves considerable time and commitment on the part of the student.
  • The experience contributes to the achievement of one or more of the learning outcomes identified by Truman and/or an academic department.  (Some Applications for Inclusion listing general education and departmental learning outcomes will require approval from the appropriate academic dean prior to inclusion of an experience as a part of the Cocurricular Record).
  • The experience involves an opportunity for students to reflect upon what they learn from the experience, and
  • Students have the opportunity to get feedback regarding their performance in the experience and students have an opportunity to provide feedback regarding the quality of the experience.
